This piece was also original, but I did not use a reference image. It was done freely, using a ruler for straight lines, but the rest was freehand. The main risk of this work was that I wasn't entirely sure where I was going with it, but in reflection I think that the whimsical feel worked out, which is good because as it was done in sharpie it would have been hard to fix.
This was an original piece made with graphite and charcoal. I created the still life with objects from around my house--my white Dr. Martens, my Pink Floyd CD, books, and candles. Aside from the candles, which are fairly conventional still life props, I thought that the other objects communicated a piece of my personality. It was a large picture, and I have never used much graphite on such a large scale so this was a new experience for me.
